SAN DIEGO WINE REGION
Yes, San Diego has a wine region. Our Mediterranean climate of hot days, cool nights, and coastal comfortable breezes is favorable for grape growing. In San Diego, we have both old and young vineyards, the traditionalists, and many new-wave wine makers. To date, there are 115 wineries and vineyards throughout the San Diego region plus many new Urban Wineries and wine bars to enjoy.
WHAT ARE URBAN WINERIES?
Urban Wineries are a relatively new phenomenon, whereby a wine producer chooses to locate their wine making facility in an urban setting rather than in the traditional rural setting near the vineyards.
SAN DIEGO URBAN WINERIES
The mission of San Diego Urban Wineries is to increase awareness of locally crafted, artisanal wine while creating a collaborative community for the city winemaker. There are tasting rooms along the San Diego coastline, in the countryside, and throughout the urban core. We will be sharing our experiences as we sip our way through various urban wineries.
BLUE DOOR URBAN WINERY
We loved the red wines we tasted! All their grapes are sourced from San Diego and Santa Barbara County vineyards to make red varietals and their famous sangria. You can sample a five pour tasting flight for $10 or $15 for premium glass. The boutique wine tasting room is pet friendly and one you will truly enjoy. This is a full production facility where you can watch the winemaking process, especially in the fall when the harvest is in full swing.
A Wine Club is available. In addition, they occasionally host Comedy nights. You can also book the winery for special events.

VIN DE SYRAH
SPIRIT AND WINE PARLOR
As we walked downstairs, we approached and entered a camouflaged secret doorway to a hidden wine bar, Once inside, we realized we were in for a completely different treat! There were lots of cozy couches to snuggle and drink wine, semi-private sitting rooms, a 12 foot candlelit table for wine tasting activities, and a hip, upscale vibe. The wine bar is very popular on Saturday nights. It boosts a fun and edgy experience. Happy Hour for flights of wine are Tuesday-Sunday, from 5-8pm. The flights include three glasses of wine which can be choosen from their list of various wine flights. Some examples include; Tiny Bubbles, Summer Fling, Sangria Flight, Big ‘n Bold, Wild Varietals, and more. You can make your own unique flight of three wines as well.
Small bites are also available to order. Wine Tasting events are held at the large 12 foot table, which includes wine and food pairings. These need to be reserved ahead of time and are held on Fridays and Saturdays, from 8-9pm, and cost $35 per person. The wines are selected by the sommelier and are different at each event. A fun experience for the novice as well as the experienced wine enthusiast.
Other fun events include DJ’s and live jazz nights, Vin de Rouge shows, Paint Nites and more. An upcoming charity fundraiser “Paws and Pinot” for the San Diego Humane Society is scheduled for August 24 from 6-9pm.
