WINE TASTING AT RAMONA WINERIES
Wine tasting at Ramona Wineries is a great way to spend a weekend afternoon. Ramona Valley AVA is nestled in the front range of the Pacific Coastal Mountains of Southern California. Ramona has a history of vineyards and wine making dating back to the early California Missions. Cool winters and warm summers, along with coastal breezes make Ramona perfect for grape growing. Ramona is now one of the fastest growing areas for grape growing and winemaking.
We enjoyed wine tasting at several different Ramona wineries on a beautiful sunny San Diego afternoon. We first did our wine tasting at Ramona Ranch Vineyard & Winery on their beautiful patio. We then enjoyed our wine tasting at Hatfield Creek Vineyard & Winery inside their charming tasting room.
Ramona Ranch Vineyard & Winery is San Diego’s only certified sustainable Vineyard & Winery. It is open for wine tasting Fridays-Sundays, 11-6pm. They have a great selection of award winning white and red wines. We chose our wine tasting from the Red Wine list which included Riata, Sangiovese, and Tannat Wines. The wine tasting flight is $6.00 for three wines. You can choose from the White or Red wine flight list. Our favorite was the 2015 Sangiovese Reserve and we bought a bottle to enjoy at home. The wine tasting patio has a great view and is pet friendly.
Hatfield Creek Vineyard & Winery, “where every hour is a happy hour” is a charming small winery. They grow Petite Sirah and Zinfandel grapes in their vineyards. The tasting room has a homey atmosphere with comfy couches, fire place, wine bar, piano, and charming decor. The Tasting Room is open Fridays-Sundays, 11-5pm and is pet friendly. They have numerous award winning wines. The wine tasting flight is $10 for seven wines of your choice from their wine list of Red and White wines. We chose three Red wines to include Estate Petite Sirah, Estate Zinfandel, and Estate Fonzi Field Blend. Our favorite was the 2015 Estate Petite Sirah and we bought a bottle to enjoy at home. The Owner and Winemaker Elaine was very friendly and knowledgeable.
The Winery also hosts monthly Second Sunday Sunset Dinners with amazing meals and wine pairing. There is a War Memorial and Native American Artifacts Museum on the property as well.
We really enjoyed our wine tasting at Ramona Ranch Vineyard & Winery and Hatfield Creek Vineyard & Winery. We look forward to returning soon. Next time, we will check out the Winemaker Weekend in Ramona that provides behind the scenes look and taste of 10 Ramona Wineries.
Cheers!
