SAN DIEGO COUNTY WINERIES GENERATED $58.6 MILLION
San Diego County Wineries generated $58.6 million in 2018. The 2019 Economic Impact Report shows San Diego wineries continue to grow. There are now 142 operating and under construction wineries in San Diego County. San Diego County saw an increase in gross wine sales and saw a 9.7% increase in wine industry jobs.
San Diego is a great place to grow grapes with our Mediterranean climate of hot days, cool nights, and coastal breezes. There are many picturesque vineyards throughout San Diego County. San Diego is part of three AVA’s, to include the South Coast AVA, the San Pasqual Valley AVA, and the Ramona Valley AVA.
There are tasting rooms and wineries in the back country, along the coastline, and throughout the urban core. We have enjoyed visiting many wineries in San Diego. We have found many delicious award winning wines, beautiful tasting rooms and patios, knowledgeable Winemakers, and great wine enthusiasts on our San Diego Wine Region journey.
The most planted San Diego wine grapes are; Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Merlot, Sangiovese, Viognier, Cabernet Franc, Zinfandel, Chardonnay, Grenache Noir, Sauvignon Blanc, Malbec, Tempranillo, Petite Sirah, and Muscat Blanc.
