WINE TASTING AT FORGOTTEN BARREL WINERY
Wine Tasting at Forgotten Barrel Winery is a great way to spend a relaxing weekend afternoon. Forgotten Barrel Winery is a hidden gem in Escondido. Forgotten Barrel occupies the former Ferrara Winery which was a designated California historic point of interest in the late 1970’s. The Winery was originally established in 1869 as one of San Diego County and Southern California’s first Vineyards. The Ferrara family owned the winery for 75 years, reopened in 1932 and was operated by three generations until 2010. Forgotten Barrel restored the historic property and opened the Tasting Room in 2017. The owner, Rodger Grove tries to keep the integrity of the history of old Ferrara Winery while producing great wines in a modern way and environment.
Forgotten Barrel Winery sources most of their grapes from Napa and Sonoma and makes their wine onsite. They also grow some grapes in their Vineyard next to the winery. Forgotten Barrel has outdoor seating available as well as a lovely remodeled Tasting Room. The Tasting Room is open Thurs/Friday 3-7:00pm, Sat 12-7:00pm, Sun 12-6:00pm. The Wine Tasting flights cost either $10 or $15 for five wines depending on which wine list you choose from. We chose our wine flight from the $15 wine tasting list.
Forgotten Barrel is pet friendly. Dogs are allowed outside on a leash but not inside the winemaking structures. Several guests were observed sipping their wines with their dogs at their side while listening to soft live music.
Barrel Tasting was provided by Rodger, the owner of Forgotten Barrel Winery. On the afternoon we visited Forgotten Barrel, the winery also hosted a Harvest Crush Party featuring the release of their 2017 Cinsaut, a Rhône style wine.
We really enjoyed Wine Tasting at Forgotten Barrel Winery. Our favorite wine we tasted was the 2013 Napa Valley Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon. We bought a bottle of Forgotten Barrel wine to enjoy again at home. We look forward to returning soon to Forgotten Barrel Winery.
Cheers!
